My Birthday 14+14 = 28

Get to know me a bit better in this blog post of 14 things that you didn't know about me and 14 things that I've learned in this past 28 years

This year I am turning 28, which is crazy to me. It feels like I’ve only started high school yesterday and now I am already done with school for 8 years already.

Like most bloggers, I thought I would write about what I’ve learned in this past 28 years but with a twist. I am going to write 14 things that u might not know about me and 14 things that I’ve learned in this past 28 years. Which is going to be challenging for me to say the least because I already covered most things on my ‘about me’ page.

Let’s start with the 14 things I’ve learned this past 28 years.

  1. First and foremost the biggest lesson that I’ve learned this past 28 years, is that not everything is going to go as you’ve planned it and you cannot control everything. And that’s okay.
  2. I am still trying to figure everything out, who I am and who I want to be, I guess this will change as the season in my life changes. For now, I am a work from home girl, married to my best friend.
  3. Everything has a time and a place. It may not be my time but it is sure God’s time.
  4. Learn from your own mistakes and those from others. Sometimes it is so valuable to listen to other’s stories and learn from it.
  5. When you cannot figure out a difficult task or situation, get up take a deep breath and make some coffee. Then go back to it – coffee really change your perspective
  6. Your mother really knows best!
  7. The experts are totally right, exercise really does put you in a better mood
  8. Do it now, even if you don’t feel like it – you will thank yourself later.
  9. You cannot expect anything from anyone, you are setting yourself up for disappointment and resentment.
  10. Do you want to be right or do you want the relationship?
  11. Sometimes things are really simple – don’t overcomplicate it.
  12. You are worthy and there is nothing wrong in taking care of yourself first before taking care of others – I am still struggling with this.
  13. Make the time to do those things you want to do, otherwise, you will never get the chance or time.
  14. Asking (or hiring) for help will make your life so much easier. Don’t try to do ‘all the things’!

Wow, when I started going with this, it was much easier than I thought! Okay next…

14 things you don’t know about me

  1. I really love computer games. I played The Sims from the beginning up until now that I am playing The Sims 4. Assassins Creed is also a game I love. I play it once in a while on my husband’s Play Station, and I just started playing Fortnite… Can you believe it
  2. My dream car must be a BMW. Even though I am driving a Hyundai Getz at the moment that I totally love, I will someday, when I grow up, buy my BMW.
  3. If I have to choose only one beauty product that I can use for the rest of my life it will have to be a foundation.
  4. This is something that I just recently learned of myself too, I actually enjoy a bit of exercise. I’ve started to do home workouts on an app on my phone every morning, and I am totally excited to do it.
  5. I enjoy sewing and I recently made my own roman blind for the kitchen.
  6. I wouldn’t call myself a neat freak, but I am definitely a tidy person. My immediate surroundings do affect my mood if it is not all that tidy.
  7. Even though I have a B.Tech degree in Architectural Technology, I’ve found myself really more drawn to interiors. I am really considering taking a course in interior design.
  8. I am constantly trying to find ways to make my day to day life easier and do things with the least amount of effort. Some people will call it lazy, I call it efficient. Nobody’s got time to stand around washing dishes all day! #dishwasher #lifesaver
  9. I love to entertain friends and family at our home.
  10. If I can brag a little, I am a totally awesome gift giver! I love listening to people and making little mental notes of things they would like to get. But I must admit, there are a few persons in my life that I struggle to buy presents for!
  11. I am such a procrastinator! But it comes in two categories: 1) I get stuck in planning mode and never move forward. 2) I just keep putting something off that I should be doing. But then when I finished it I realized point #8 on the things that I’ve learned list!
  12. I am a dreamer, but I grew up a little. I must admit when I was younger, I was living life more in my head than in real life sometimes. But life happens and I grew up a little, and maybe I became a bit pessimistic. But lately, I am choosing to see the positive.
  13. I am such a type-C person – I analyze everything and everyone, I am a true introvert, and I am so task oriented!
  14. I love the mountains more than I love the ocean. Don’t get me wrong, the ocean is beautiful and there is something about an awesome ocean holiday. But sometimes the crashing of the waves makes me more anxious than calm. So if I could sit in the forest near a mountain with a lovely stream and a few chirping birds I would be in my element!

Phew!!! That was a mouthful! If you stayed to the end you deserve a good cup of coffee!! Thanks for reading to the end and getting to know me a bit more.

Leave me a comment of what you’ve learned in your ‘x’ amount of years here on earth! Would love to read it.

Till next time – Keep it classy!

Renovations in progress and a freebie

Renovations on blog and free 2 Timothy 1:7 printable | bible verse printable | free printable | bible study | Jesus | God | Holy Spirit

Hi friend, got your cuppa coffee ready for today’s chat? I will wait till you have that steaming cup of goodness before I continue… Oh, you are a tea girl?! That’s okay too… 😊 I am currently loving Biedouw Valley Rooibos Tea & Vanilla Flavour.

Last week I shared some of the renovations that I want to do on the blog. If you are not sure what I am talking about, you can read about it here. The whole week I was pondering what else I can add to my blog that would add value to my readers’ overall experience. It also got me thinking, what makes me go back to my favorite bloggers every other day? Mmmm….

After a few minutes of thinking, I made a list of things that make me go back to a blog every time:

  1. They have valuable information that is relevant to my needs or interests
  2. The blog is filled with beautiful photos.
  3. Sometimes they offer me something for free (i.e. free printable)
  4. They have a captivating newsletter that I can follow to keep me up to date with their latest news.
  5. The blog is easy to navigate – I like simplicity and clean lines
  6. The way they write makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, you’re a friend, not a stranger.

Which of these points listed do I like the most… FREE STUFF of course!! Who doesn’t like free stuff? With the economy being the way it is, we are looking for more and more places to save. And with my love for things being organized and pretty, free printable lists and beautiful quotes do come in handy to spruce up one’s place. Am I right or am I right?

This Bible verse printable that I made is also one of my favorites and made me overcome my silly fears of hitting the publish button on my blog. You can download an Afrikaans or English version. Or Both 😉

Other renovations that are on its way:

A new Facebook and/or Instagram page. I am not going to focus on every social media platform that is available. I simply don’t have the time. But I do know that social media is important to grow and to get noticed by companies, so it is definitely on my to-do list.

One more renovation that I am extremely excited about: a free resource library on the blog.😊 I am not sure if it will be ready at the end of this month, but I will try my best to have it up and running as soon as possible. The library will be filled over time with worksheets, checklists, quotes, and a few wedding related freebies.

Let me know what type of printables you are looking for to make your life easier, and I will see what I can do to help you out!

Till our next coffee

My progress at a thing called blogging

my blogging progress, update,

Hi there! Do you have a cup of coffee so we can have a little heart to heart about this thing called blogging? Okay, you ready? I have been blogging for on and off about 4 months now, and I must say, I am a bit disappointed in myself. Don’t get me wrong, I actually really enjoy the whole process. Writing the content, finding photos (that’s free) that will go with the blog posts and put it all together. I’ve found it immensely boost my creativity in writing, and when I hit that publish button I feel a sense of accomplishment.

“Why are you disappointed in yourself Nadine, if you actually like blogging?” well let me fill you in:

Firstly, because I don’t spend near as much time on blogging as I want to. My time is limited, because of my full-time job and after work, I sometimes just don’t feel like doing anything. Weekends are filled with other social obligations or I am not in the mood.  Ultimately, I need to come up with a plan to spend more time on the blog.

Secondly, I don’t have the finances, or circumstances prohibit me, to do some of the projects that I want to blog about. I want to get some home organizing and decor things on the blog as well. These topics also lie close to my heart. Like I explained in this blog post, I live with my mom.

Thirdly, I feel a bit limited by my blog’s overall look and lack of knowledge of the technical things of running a good blog. Let me elaborate; I have a free theme and even though I liked it, in the beginning, I feel that it falls short of what I want to achieve and let my readers feel when they visit the blog. At the moment, it is missing something.

And lastly, I am such a perfectionist and thus plans more than doing = procrastination. I want to do things perfectly from the beginning and I forget that I am a beginner and that I cannot compare my skills to someone who has been blogging for a longer than I have.

So now that the pity party is over, I will tell you what I plan on doing to improve my overall blogging skills.

#goals:

  1. I will set aside time for blogging. ‘Quality over Quantity’ is key here, so I will strive to put out posts that I feel are worth it and not just posting for the sake of posting.
  2. I want to write posts about things that is going on in my life and that might help other women.
  3. Even though I cannot afford a premium theme, I am already busy on thinking how to rebrand my blog and give it a proper color palate, so that everything will feel more cohesive. And when I have money to buy a premium theme, everything will just fall into place.
  4. Somewhere on my laptop, I have a great ebook from Abby Lawson about setting up your blog. The book is gathering virtual dust, so it is time to dust it off and go through it again. I want to implement some of her advice so that the blog runs more efficiently.

I explained why I started a blog in this blog post

Let me know what you do to run your blog more efficiently.

Till our next coffee
